 The rehearsal schedule here lists dates and times where actors will be needed for the run of this production. Not all actors will be needed at every rehearsal or for a full rehearsal. Weekly updates will be sent to the cast and posted on the callboard with who all is called for each rehearsal.

Pocahontas Character description

Leading Roles

Narrators – Two Females named Cassie and Amy. Spunky, humorous, friendly museum tour guides. Both sing and move very well.
SONGS: IN EVERY LIFE, MAKING OF A LEGEND, FINALE

Pocahontas – This role will be understudied
Algonquin Indian Princess- She is a beautiful young woman who is the daughter of Chief Powhatan. Her role is that of a heroine, peacemaker, wise, and adventurous women. Tragically, she contracted a disease for which she had no genetic immunity -- smallpox, some say, or pneumonia -- and died within months of her visit to England. Strong singer/actor  SONGS: SOMETHING BETTER, SAPHIRE EYES, DREAMGIVER, YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME, IF I NEVER MET YOU, FINALE

John Smith – This role will be understudied
English Settler who Pocahontas saves from being executed – He is an English settler who has directed many voyages to different parts of the world. He is well-known for his expertise in the open sea and successful submission of savages in other “new worlds” he has visited, and is adventurous, courageous and strong. Strong singer/actor

John Rolfe – This role will be understudied
John Rolfe was an earlier American settler. His first wife died en route to the colonies, and Rolfe later married the Native Princess Pocahontas, who had been kidnapped and converted to Christianity. He returned to England with her, where they were greeted across England as celebrity-curiosities. Through Thomas Rolfe, his son with Pocahontas, Rolfe's progeny extends through many generations of Virginia's most prominent families. Strong singer/actor

Supporting Roles
Captain Argall – (NON-SINGING ROLE)
Captain in Jamestown, Virginia. He is in charge of the expedition to the new world and he is only concern with acquiring gold and wealth. He often refers to Native Americans as savages, and uncivilized people because they do not speak proper English or behave as ‘normal’ human beings should. Strong actor, minimal vocals.

Keokum – SONG: DEMON IN OUR MIDST
Indian brave; He is against the ‘White Man’ and Pocahontas. Strong actor and singer. Dancing, gymnastics ability a plus.

Chief Powhattan – SONGS: CELEBRATE THE LEGEND, DEMON/MIDST
Chief of the Algonquin Indian Tribe & Pocahontas’ father. He often carries a stick and is often seen in robes which highlight his authority. He is judicious and well-spoken. Strong actor with large presence.

Wa-Hun-Sen – (Could be a Non-Singing role or SING ENSEMBLE)
Indian brave; Keokum’s Father. A wise and good father and warrior

Thomas – SONGS: THE JOURNEY…, FINALE
Son of Pocahontas and John Rolfe

Queen Anne – SONG: YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME (Tea #2)
Queen of England – A very grand lady, but not snobbish. A very real, almost motherly person. More honest, wise and sincere than any of those in her court. Smaller but important role. Strong actor.
Smithers – SONG: LOOK WHOS COMING TO TEA

Servant of Queen Anne and quite the snob, especially towards Pocahontas. Strong Actor, minimal vocals.

The Rose Award is the most distinguished award a CYT student can receive. It is given to the cast or crew member who most exemplifies Jesus Christ during the run of the production, both on and off the stage. This is the only award voted on by the cast and crew.
