Camp Description

Oh, the thinks you can think!

Join us as Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in this fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Counselor:

Julianne Boyd

Julianne joined CYT as a camp counselor in the Summer of 2017 and most recently choreographed "Schoolhouse Rock, Fringe Edition." She is a choir teacher and the musical director at Zionsville West Middle School, where she directed and music directed "High School Musical Jr" and "Mary Poppins Jr." Outside of musical theatre, Julianne loves running races, reading, and shopping at Trader Joe's. She is so looking forward to summer camps and directing the upcoming CYT Fringe production!

Counselor:

Levi Burke

Levi started with CYT in the Fall of 2015 when he was Music Director for "Legally Blonde Jr." Talk about an experience! He saw a couple shows prior to working personally with these amazing kids, and was never disappointed. He noticed the tenacity of each member of the cast to put in the work for their part was incredible. Levi immediately knew that after "Legally Blonde Jr.", he wanted to continue being involved. He, afterwards, taught a course on advanced voice technique and another on songwriting-- a class that each student had the opportunity to write and perform their own songs for showcase! Last May Levi came onto staff as an Area Coordinator until the end of "Up the Down Staircase". He is ecstatic to stay involved with a spring class on Musical Theatre. Levi is what those in the business call "a theatre rat." He spends his time working in theaters throughout Indianapolis doing just about whatever he can to get a piece of the action: playing piano, music directing, conducting, arranging, acting, singing, and even lighting designing. He works with Actor's Theatre of Indiana where he will be Music Director for much of their 2017-2018 mainstage season, with Apprentice Players Youth Theatre for each summer production at The Belfry Theatre in Noblesville, with Avon High School as their show choir accompanist, and with Carmel Community Player's "Rising Star" program which will put on "13: A New Musical" this June. Levi is the recipient of the Indianapolis Theatre Encore Award for "Best Musical Director (2016)" and "Best Vocal Director (2016)". In his spare time, Levi teaches piano, voice, and music theory-- leading a few daring students through an AP Music Theory course this year! I'm always interested in taking on more students. Anyone is welcome to contact me, if interested. (Oh no! I broke the third person consistency! Whatever shall I do? He do? Oh, well...)
